New Collection: Fresh + Bold Design with Lemon Farmer’s Market
I was looking at my lemon tree earlier this year. I studied the way the branches moved and the fruits hung so gently alongside the lime green leaves in perfect harmony. And, in that moment, I absolutely knew that I’d soon be painting a collection of lemon-inspired designs!
There’s something so clean and fresh about lemons. Maybe it’s that lovely smell that automatically comes to my mind when I think of them, or the brightness of their yellow coloring. Looking at them makes me feel so much more awake and alive! It was that feeling of liveliness that I wanted to capture in these paintings.
I’ve recently been into a more modern and minimalistic approach to my designs and wanted to bring that to this lemon collection. My focus went straight to the main colors – lemon yellow (obviously!), a rich green and deep indigo blue. It’s a bit sad to admit, but my work ethic slowed down a little bit this summer. Though I was working at a snail’s pace compared to my usual rhythm, I found peace and solace in the actual act of painting – a feeling that I haven’t had in a very long time. It was refreshing and welcome!
I think those feelings of peacefulness and general happiness are most certainly captured in my designs. I included a few inspiring quotes (because I literally cannot have a collection without a little bit of motivation thrown in there!) including, “when life gives you lemons make lemonade” and “squeeze the day.”
Overall, I wanted to offer a set of prints that could be used throughout the kitchen or home that would add a little bit of classic color to any space. And I think I succeeded! I’m in love with these lemons now – and hope you are, too!
